The First Haverstock Training Camp took place in the Brecon Beacons in the summer of 1996. Originally a camp for the club fencers of Haverstock with a few invited guests it has grown to become the UK’s premier Epee Training Camp
The Camp has travelled from the Brecon Beacons via Monmouth, Baskerville Hall and Tata in Hungary, to its current home of Tauberbischofsheim, Germany. What started out as a camp of around 30 fencers and 4 coaches has evolved to a camp with over 75 fencers from all around the world, 8 coaches and a support staff including physios and international sparing partners
Under the Chairmanship of John Ince, the only person to have attended every camp, the philosophy has never changed. The Haverstock Training Camp is a camp for all, where epee fencers of all ages and abilities can come to enjoy a week’s training, make new friends and have fun in an inclusive and friendly atmosphere.
John is particularly proud of the camp’s history of helping young fencers develop by giving them the skills and experience required to compete at top-level epee. Fencers who have attended the camp as youngsters and gone onto senior international success include World Cup Finalist Nick Perry and World Cup Winner Jon Willis. The camp also boasts several British Champions and UK School Games medallists.
The week long camp is about working hard and playing hard. The legendary camp cabaret is a regular fixture. This mixture of quality training and fun makes the Haverstock Training Camp the best epee training camp around, often copied but never bettered.
